Lesa claims her share of golfing spoils at UGC
Once again, congratulations were extended to all our inter-club players, not just the winners but to all the players, both our women and men.

THE hype and anticipation of inter-club is now over for another year, all the congratulatory messages have been said and sent, so it’s back to normal for all the Umkomaas Golf Club (UGC) members once again.
The wind has been playing havoc on most of the competitions over the past few weeks but hopefully it will settle down and players can enjoy the cooler weather of November before the heat hits with a vengeance in December and January.
Wednesday’s competition welcomed visitors Johan Roux and John Thompson but once again it was former member, John Thompson who took home the first prize with his 36 points, counting out Barrie Taylor into second place, also with 36 points. Peter Toward, who was third, counted out Trevor Osborne, Wally Kent, Roddy McGibbon and Piet Vermaak respectively, all on 35 points. Looking at the final points, there was quite a stiff breeze out there on Wednesday afternoon, which reflects the resulting scores.
On Saturday, the Toyota sponsored monthly medal and mug competition was played. The club welcomed Tallies Taljaard, Allan Hawkins, Bill Hucker and new member Kevin Bradbury.
Once again, congratulations were extended to all inter-club players, not just the winners but all the women and men players. There’s a new winner in the A division in the form of Sean Pregdergast on a 74 nett with Barrie Taylor taking the B division prize on a 71 nett. No surprises in the C division – well done to Simon van den Bosch who, despite the wind on Saturday, scored a 67 nett. On the women’s side, Lesa Vergottini won this month with her 72 nett score. She also took home the least putts prize with only 32 putts.
The jackpot will be carried over to next weekend but the hidden birdie was won by Bruce Sutcliffe on the 15th hole. Eric Morsner was the only player to get a two-club on the ninth hole with Dave Kemp winning the prize in the ‘non-skills department’ – the attendance draw.
All member are reminded that the Alliance League for October will be played this Saturday, 11 November and the November alliance league game will be played on Saturday, 25 November. This is due to both industrial league and inter-club being played last month over different weekends. Diarise these dates as they are important.
Last Sunday, 5 November there was a good turn-out of 15 players for the Sunday ‘bash’ which welcomed Christopher Pillay and Anil Seepershad to the ranks. Thanks go to Tom Naicker for supplying the nearest the pin markers. The winner was James Dlamini on 39 points followed by second placed Patrick Khati on a count out from Saga Reddy in third spot and Henceford Zama in fourth place, all on 37 points. In fifth slot was Mlu Khoza on 36 points. Well done to all the guys – the next ‘bash’ will be on Sunday, 19 November with the Christmas ‘bash’ on Sunday, 10 December.
To members Erika Ruaro, Neil Thompson and Piet Vermaak who are not too well at the moment, thoughts and prayers are with you all.
