AS mentioned last week, Umkomaas Golf Club (UGC) welcomed and hosted the Southern Natal Nomads last Tuesday and although the weather had been suspect three days before, it turned out to be a brilliant day.
The club was a hive of activity with just under 100 players all ready for action.
After the golf, there was a sponsored lamb on the spit for the hungry, which was everybody. With their traditional tipple before the game, there was much merriment and socialising afterwards. All in all, it was a good day for everyone.
Unfortunately, after the Nomads played, the heavens opened up for the next 48 hours, meaning there was no competition on Wednesday as the individual stableford was rained out completely.
The competition on Saturday, 18 November was poorly supported but the club welcomed Tallies Taljaard to the fourball betterball stableford. Winners were Denise Nell and visitor, Tallies Taljaard on a score of 45 points with Eric Morsner and Rob Finlay in second place with 44 points. All the side competitions – jackpot, hidden birdie (fifth hole) and two-club, will be carried over to this weekend.
Although Denise was the only player to get a two-club (but didn’t take one) she still managed to scoop the attendance draw. Well done to all the players, especially the winners.
This Saturday, 25 November will be the November fourball alliance league game, so get your teams together for the penultimate game. There will be social golf on Sunday, 26 November. Contact the club on 039-973-1042 to book a tee time.
With the December holidays edging ever closer, UGC will run its December holiday specials again, which were thoroughly enjoyed last year. Call Sonny on the number above to find out more details – there may just be a special on offer to suit you.
Not forgetting the early bird special which happens on Tuesdays and Fridays only, before 7am or earlier if need be. Green fees are R75 per round of 18 holes. Call Graham on 083-325-5705, he will arrange and play a round on these days.
Six pin is ongoing on Friday afternoons starting at around 2.30pm. Go down to the club, collect your scorecard at the bar, play your six holes and enjoy a cold one afterwards. On occasion, there will be a nearest the pin or a longest drive compo thrown in, just to mix it up a little.
A few UGC members are not well at the moment, so everyone at the club wishes them all the very best. Thoughts and prayers go out to Cheryl Brunner, Erika Ruaro and Piet Vermaak as they go through their various treatments and to any members who are not too well at the moment. Get well as soon as you can – and let’s play golf.
