AS the end of a successful year of bowls approaches for Amanzimtoti Bowling Club’s women, there is more good news among the women players.
Well done to Jane Coetzee and Lynn Joubert who have been selected for the Port Natal President’s invitation side.
This brings to seven the number of Toti players in all who have made it into the squad. Congratulations also go to Marietjie van den Bergh, who will be representing Namibia in the Commonwealth Games on Australia’s Gold Coast in April.
In the women’s turkey day, the turkey winners were Jeanne Alexander, Amanda Ninow, Jean Snyman and Elbie Fourie. Runners-up were Doreen Salmond, Lynn Joubert and Marie van der Walt, each winning a gammon. Chickens went to second session winners Marion Crouch, Nicky Stirzaker and Maureen Griffin. Most bowls team was Barbara Beamson, Elmarie Young, Denise Bingham and Linda McGregor who each took home a bottle of wine. Jane Coetzee won the 100 board.
The winners at the men’s turkey day were Barry Simpson, Alf Bingham and Keith West. Runners-up who won gammons were Ian Crouch, Andy Walker and Ian McDonald. Second session went to Gerald Chalder-Royle, Ken Leech and Colin Spence, who won chickens. Beers went to most bowls winners Adie Fuller, George Glaves and Brian Cox. Thanks go to Dallas Davis for donating most bowls prizes for both days, as well as Pamper Palace for the chickens.
At the last TGIF of the year, Pete Shepard won the 100 board. Ken Pollard was not present, so at the next TGIF, the draw will be worth R350. Sue Welch held her breath as she tried to open the key box, but sadly no luck for her. Note the next TGIF will be on 12 January 2018, and it will be a must win. The lucky club member who opens the box will start their New Year with R10,000.
On the Friday evenings of 15, 22 and 29 December and 5 January at 5pm, the club will hold barflies and braai evenings. This promises to be a fun end to the year, and is for bowlers and non-bowlers alike. Full details to be found elsewhere in this newspaper.
The competitive men versus women morning will take place on Saturday, 16 December at 8.30am for 9am. As this is a public holiday, note the dress code of mufti. The women will go all out to retain their title, while the men will be anxious to win it back. On Sunday, 17 December, it is the last Big Chicks of the year.
Birthday greeting go this week to Barry Buckland, Lys McDonald and Ian Crouch. Get well to all members who are not in the best of health right now.
