Amanzimtoti swimmer sets new pace at SA age group champs

The Aqua Lifestyle Centre brand ambassador entered eight events in the girls 12-year-old category.

AT the 2019 SA national junior age group championships (long course 50m pool), Amanzimtoti swimmer Monica Botha qualified for five out of the eight finals with four personal best swims.

At the five-day championships event, which ran from 20 to 24 March at Durban’s Kings Park Aquatic Centre, Botha was among some 740 swimmers competing from Southern Africa.

The event doubles as the official trials for the seventh FINA Junior World Swimming Championships. The Aqua Lifestyle Centre brand ambassador entered eight events in the girls 12-year-old category.

She qualified for five out of the eight finals with four personal bests and placed in the top four for the 400m (5:02:30) and 200m LC (2:21:78) freestyle, seventh in the 100m freestyle in a time of 1:04:98 and sixth in the 50m freestyle (30:51). In her favourite event, the 200m IM, she finished fifth in 2:45:45 and eighth overall in the 200m backstroke in 2:45:03.

Monica dedicated her races to the SA Childhood Cancer Foundation (CHOC Cows). She actively creates awareness and raises funds for childhood cancer on an ongoing basis. She invites the community to support these causes with donations at the following fundraising sites:
