Winning mindset for Amanzimtoti Cricket Club’s first-team captain

The confident team believes they have what it takes to win the KZN league and go up against the best in the country.

AMANZIMTOTI Cricket Club’s first-team captain, Tegan Naidoo (33), is determined to lead his team to the top of the KZNCU Castle Men’s Premier League log.

With nine years at the club and eight years as captain, Naidoo said he has witnessed the team’s remarkable journey from the challenger league to the premier league, currently holding the second position on the log, just three points behind the leaders.

“The team is improving significantly. We are in a great place, with a mix of experienced and new players that each have something to offer,” he said.

Naidoo said that winning the league would boost morale and motivate players to believe in their abilities to take the sport further. “Our coach, Frank Ferreira, has played a crucial role in instilling confidence in the team, telling us that we’ve got what it takes to win the KZN league and go up against the best in the country,” he said.

The cricketer, who has been playing since the age of 11 and has been contracted into various clubs and leagues in and out of the country, emphasises the importance of discipline and humility in reaching a professional level. He believes in manifesting success and highlights the mental aspect of the sport.

“I didn’t know cricket could have such an impact on my life. Although it didn’t become what I wanted it to, it became something else, which is equally as great. It’s a passion, a release from everyday life and a place to form long-lasting friendships,” said Naidoo.

He also sees cricket as a tactical game, requiring strategic planning and smart decision-making. “I enjoy the challenge of outsmarting the opposition. It’s similar to life; the smallest decisions can change the whole trajectory of life,” said Naidoo.

For those interested in playing cricket, or coming to support the players during home games, Naidoo encourages them to visit the club.
