Toti cricketers finish league in second place

Amanzimtoti Cricket Club's first team won four of their five pool matches, topped their pool and progressed to the final of the KZN Castle Premier T20 Competition this season.

AMANZIMTOTI Cricket Club’s (ACC) first team fell short against Crusaders Cricket Club in the final of the KZN Castle Premier T20 Competition on October 27.

The defending champions, Crusaders, won the toss and elected to bowl first during their home match at Northwood.

ACC’s scribe, Peter Lonie, said an early wicket was followed by a 99 run partnership between Tylor Trenoweth (65) and Gareth Lonie (42), who took ACC’s score from 5/1 to 104/2. Contributions from ACC’s middle-order batsmen took the score to 166/6 after 20 overs.

“ACC’s opening pair of Luc Jacobs and Rob Ackermann, kept the Crusaders’ batsmen at bay in the first four overs before Jarryd Michaux claimed the wicket of Jason Wagner in the 5th over. Dylan Labuschagne’s superb spell of 1/20 from his four overs was the pick of the Toti bowlers and included the wicket of Sarel Erwee. Ackermann, Jacobs and Muhammad Khan each claimed a wicket, but a quick 54 runs from 19 balls from Crusaders’ Jeremy Martins saw Crusaders reach their target in the 19th over – winning by 5 wickets,” he said.

Lonie added that ACC’s Premier T20 campaign this season has shown a significant improvement when compared to last season. “They won four of their five pool matches, topped their pool and progressed to the final of the competition,” he said.

The other T20 champions are as follows: Lindelani Cricket Club (Women’s Premier League), Southern Natal Cricket Club (Men’s Promotion League), King Cetshwayo Cricket District (Women’s Promotion League) and Delta Cricket Club (Veterans League).
