SPAR schoolgirls’ hockey challenge promises to be a spectacle

The dates for one of the premier school sporting events, the SPAR Schoolgirls’ Hockey Challenge, have been released.

THE SPAR KZN Schoolgirls’ Hockey Challenge will be turning 15 this year and the dates for the regionals and finals have been announced. Last year, Amanzimtoti High School was one of 10 teams to clash in the grand finals.

The incredible milestone is punctuated by 130 teams that have proudly hoisted trophies at their respective regionals, with over 1 114 teams having participated and 16 710 players taking it to the turf.

Publicist, Sharlene Versfeld, said, “The tournament comprises 10 regionals across KZN, with a grand final rounding off the annual challenge where the 10 regional winners meet in a highly competitive weekend of hockey.

Werda Skool will host the Durban South Regional at the 3 Schools Trust turf in Glenwood on April 12. Ashton International College is the venue for the Durban North Regional the next day on April 13.

Once all the 10 regionals have been played, the top teams will congregate at St Mary’s DSG in Kloof for the Grand Finals on July 26 and 27.
