Developing blackball talent in Toti [Pics]

After noticing a surge in pool popularity among youth, a local businessman decided to start hosting weekly free development tournaments.

POOL cues hit their marks at Cues on Crescent’s weekly free pool competitions on January 25. The competitions serve as a testing ground for developing pool talent to not only hone their skills, but also connect with like-minded players and compete for a cash prize.

Equipped with three professionally serviced pool tables, the competition uses blackball rules and is held every Sunday, offering a tantalising R1000 prize for the winner.

Mark Gounder, organiser of the competition, said that he started it after noticing many young people are taking up pool as their sport and leisure activity of choice. He hopes that by providing a relaxing, yet competitive pool environment, players can improve and develop into skilled competitors.

“This is a development competition, so no South African capped players can enter. Entry is free; however, if you lose, it is R50 to re-enter. There are three rounds, and when players reach three points, they go through to the next round,” said Gounder.
