Winkle parasurfer conquers waves

Winklespruit’s Natasha Siebert made waves at the 2025 Sea Harvest SA Para Surfing Championships in Durban, securing second place in the Prone 1 division.

A WINKLESPRUIT surfer was one of 48 athletes from across the country who took part in the 2025 Sea Harvest SA Para Surfing Championships at Durban’s New Pier recently, competing mostly on ideal waves and moderate onshore winds.

Although Natasha Siebert came second in her division, she hoped to do better.

“Mentally, I wasn’t prepared for the changes before the competition started. New rules took me out of my division, and I had to compete in a different one,” said Siebert.

She competed in the Prone 1 division, in which surfers are unassisted. After a motorbike accident, Siebert took up surfing and discovered that she enjoyed it as it was more fulfilling.

“After realising that I couldn’t just sit at home and do nothing, I tried handcycling. After some difficulties, I switched to surfing in 2021 and I’ve been at it ever since,” she said.

She also wants to start powerlifting and is currently looking for a coach. She thanked Made for More for organising the competition and for the ongoing encouragement that has seen her make waves in the surfing world.
