JOHANNESBURG – An elderly woman from Kibler Park, and her family, can rest easier knowing that four of the five men who held her up during a house robbery have been arrested.
On October 12, the suspects, who were driving a blue Mazda with the registration FMW 502 GP, parked their vehicle on Frederick Street before jumping over a wall and gaining entry onto the property where the elderly victim was busy gardening. The suspects approached her and threatened her with a garden fork.
“I was busy working in the garden and was approached by the guys. I screamed but the one put his hand on my mouth and another hand on my throat. He said, ‘stop screaming, keep quiet’. I struggled to get out of his grip and was then asked how many people were in the big house. I told them there were four people in the house and some were sleeping. They asked for the keys into the main house” said the resident who managed to escape unharmed.
The victim sat on a garden chair and attempted to press the panic button, however, she was seen by one of the men who ripped it out of her hand. When the men saw that the door to the main house was open, three of the suspects went in but left the victim outside with two of the suspects who kept an eye on her.
“They wanted money and keys for safes. I saw them come out with a TV. Fortunately an SOS security officer was patrolling and saw the men and then asked them what they were doing. The men left the TV at the bottom of the garden and then ran off,” explained the victim.
Mondeor SAPS officers were at the scene with the Sector 3 CPF and a member of the Victim Support Unit, as well as Chubb Security and CRD Security.
The family said they were relieved that no one was harmed during the incident. Two suspects were arrested on the scene and two more were later caught.
Mondeor SAPS communications officer, Constable Elizabeth Sibongile Mnguni, said: “It is alleged that the victim was busy in the garden in Frederick Street, Kibler Park, when one male grabbed her by the neck and demanded the safe keys. The victim saw four other males busy taking her items. She managed to press the panic button and the security and Sector 3 CPF patrollers responded and apprehended two suspects on the scene. An immediate manhunt was launched and a further two suspects were arrested in Columbine Street, by Sector 3 manager, Constable Jethro Netshikweta of Mondeor SAPS, on the same day. All suspects were charged with house robbery.”
One of the suspects is still at large and the SAPS are still investigating the matter.
Well done to Mondeor SAPS, SOS ProTec Security, Sector 3 CPF, Chubb Security and everyone involved in bringing the suspects to book.
