Adopt an animal this Mandela Day

The Johannesburg SPCA urges you to adopt a dog at their kennels.

JOIN the Johannesburg SPCA this Mandela Day on July 18 as they aim to secure safe and happy homes for 67 animals in 67 minutes.

Visit the SPCA and start the adoption process between 1pm and 2.07pm (to make it the adoption of a pet a minute) on Tuesday, July 18.

The SPCA is also hosting a pick ’n’ chew special where 67 pet toys will be sold for R67 each – and it’s only available on July 18.

How to adopt a dog:

· To adopt a dog will cost you R500 in total.

· All you have to do is visit the SPCA kennels at 5 Benray Road, Reuven, and have a look at the pets that are up for adoption.

· The SPCA will then do a home inspection and they will need a copy of your identity document, proof of residence and a R100 deposit.

· The inspectors will check to make sure your garden is big and secure enough and that you have a proper dog kennel on your property.

· Once the inspection is completed and the inspection is approved, the SPCA will sterilise/neuter the dog (male or female), vaccinate it and give it a microchip and de-worming medicine.

· You can be rest assured that you will get a call from the SPCA to collect the animal and finalise the adoption papers.

· Once this is done then you, will be required to pay the balance of R400.

· The process to adopt a cat is the same but only costs R270.
