Three suspects were arrested for attempted business robbery, hijacking and murder.
It is alleged that on November 27 at around 10:00, four unknown men went into the Telkom store at The Glen Shopping Centre and held up staff members at gunpoint. The suspects then loaded cellphones into a shopping trolley.
Centre security officials noticed the commotion inside the store and investigated. When the suspects noticed them, they fled, leaving the trolley with the cellphones behind.
On their way out, they attempted to hijack a silver Nissan Almera in Amanda Street.
A shootout ensued between the owner of the vehicle and the suspects. One suspect was hit in the left leg and they surrendered.
Members of Mondeor SAPS arrested three of the suspects and the fourth one escaped.
One 9mm firearm with serial numbers filed off was recovered. The suspects were detained at Moffat View SAPS.
“Police are still investigating. Moffat View SAPS urged anyone with information to come forth or call 071 675 6330 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111,” said Moffat View SAPS spokesperson Sgt Solly Matjila.
