Good conviction on attempted murder and pointing of firearm case

The management of Booysens SAPS is pleased with the guilty verdict.

An accused was sentenced to eight years in prison for attempted murder and pointing of a firearm at someone.

Booysens SAPS communications officer Captain Lorraine van Emmerik said management of the station thanked Warrant Officer Joseph Yende for his hard work and dedication in obtaining a guilty verdict.

Van Emmerik said on December 2, 2018, at 04:20, the complainant was with his friend, parked in his driveway in Haddon when a white VW Golf pulled up in front of his car. The complainant then saw three coloured males get out of the VW Golf.

“The suspects came towards his car. The suspects confronted them and told them that they wanted to beat them up. The complainant and his friend remained in their car, while one of the suspects climbed onto the bonnet, kicked the windscreen and broke it.

“The complainant and his friend then alighted the car to see if they could resolve the problems but the suspects started to assault them. The complaint fell to the ground due to his injuries. One of the suspects then started firing gunshots into the air,” explained Van Emmerik.

The docket was given to Yende to investigate. On February 19, the docket was finalised in court and one accused was handed eight years imprisonment. The charges against the other two accused were withdrawn.
