Sporting JHB in it for the children of the South
Sports club caters for boys and girls.
SPORTING JHB in the South of Johannesburg is one few clubs Johannesburg that have been adopted by an international football club, namely Sporting Lisbon from Portugal.
The local club is based in Turffontein and was founded in 1963 by Portuguese internationals. The aim of the club in its early years was to bring all Portuguese immigrants together. They used to play their games at Wembley Stadium in Turffontein as that was their home ground back then.
As time went by, the club signed a lease with the council to move to where they currently are.
Now, the club’s objective and mission is to reach out to aspiring young footballers in the area.

The club is participating in local leagues and also participates in the Mundialito Tournament in Algarve, Portugal, once a year. About four players under their training have been chosen to play overseas and the club also boasts with a visit by the late Nelson Mandela.
“This is one of the decorated clubs in the South and we love to nurture young talent. We play with development sides such as Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Supersport United.
“Our aim is to expose these young footballers to the big teams that are out there.

“Jose Mourinho, Manchester United coach, visited this place many years ago, and local SA coaches Roger De Sá and Eric Tinkler used to come have lunch at our restaurant,” said chairperson Jock Dias.
