Cherish our biodiversity, don’t destroy it

This is not a National Geographical show

EDITOR – Regarding ‘Monkey Vermin’ in the letters to the editor in recent weeks. A glowing sun rises over the sea, banded mongoose scamper noisily into the bushes, monkeys squabble over meagre pickings in the trees, as a yellow billed kite perches nearby, waiting patiently for the coming thermals, all this happening while playful dolphins surf the waves and further out to sea a young humpback calf breaches high into the air searching for her first breath.

Where in the world?, This is not a National Geographic show, but just another morning on the Bluff.

I thank my lucky stars everyday as to how fortunate I am to be able to witness and share my surroundings with all this wonderful diversity, when so many places on our planet have lost their biodiversity. It is sad to hear people talk about wiping out vermin, as we should be fighting to save the little that we have left and appreciate that we still have them.
