New president for Clairwood Rotary
ROTARY Club of Durban Clairwood Park inducted Juggy Naidoo (64) as its new president on Wednesday, 24 July at the Pavilion Hotel.
co-ordonator zone 20A South, Natty Moodley on Wednesday, 24 July.
A Rotarian since 2006, Juggy has been instrumental in many of the club’s projects. His main focus for the year is A Centre That Serves (ACTS), a non-profit organisation in Amanzimtoti which looks after 2,000 orphans. The total cost of the project will amount to about R400,000 and entails the installation of two edutainers, complete with electricity, books, computers and other essentials necessary for learning at Acts. Other focal points for the year include literacy programmes, which are already taking place in some schools including Junagarth Primary School.
A recipient of the 2009 Paul Harris award for commitment and dedication in the name of Rotary towards the upliftment of community performance and contribution to Rotary, Juggy puts the community’s needs first. Education is of utmost importance to him.
“I want to build a school in a poverty stricken area that will produce top students. The school must have the best of everything, it must be able to catapult pupils into a brighter future,” said Juggy. With his wife Kogie, a member of the Rotary Anns, he wants to create a platform for the younger generation to follow in their footsteps. Empowering people is one of the best things to do, he says.
In his speech, he thanked members for having confidence in his abilities, and noted that even though the past year has been filled with challenges, members were resilient and steadfast in their mission to help those less fortunate.
The club welcomes new members. They meet every Wednesday from 6pm to 7pm at DLI Hall, Greyville. Call Juggy on 083-792-6310 for more information.
