Photo circuit sees ace lensmen capture Bluff on camera

Bluff Photo Circuit hosted by Bluff Camera Club on 27 August had been a great success with 38 official entrants.

THE Bluff Photo Circuit hosted by Bluff Camera Club on 27 August was a great success with 38 official entrants.

They, without any doubt, caused many quizzically raised eyebrows from an unsuspecting Saturday morning public, who wondered who all those people were who popped up in the strangest places, all bristling with photographic equipment and who assumed very strange positions while trying to photograph seemingly odd things. The club’s thanks are extended to everybody who braved the early hours to join in.

The 10 mystery pre-set photographic categories, handed to the entrants upon arrival – all of which had to be taken on that day and only on the Bluff – once again proved how differently people see and interpret virtually the same things. The varieties of images on these pre-set themes were stunning and mind-boggling. The categories were as follows:

‘At the Yacht Club’, Rob Hart

‘Entrance’, Maggie Lally

‘Flora or Fauna’, Carol Phillips

‘Free Choice’, Norma Hush

‘Lines and/or Shapes’, Angela Rix

‘Looking Up’, Norma Hush

‘People Activity’, Sonia Siecker

‘Place of Worship’, Wendy Freer

‘Beach Pool Area’, Andrew McLaren

‘Where Land Meets the Sea’, Rob Hart.

The prize giving evening on 5 September was well attended with great sponsored prizes for the winners plus lucky-number draws for all contestants. The club’s congratulations and sincere thanks go to the three main stars who had worked tirelessly to produce a faultless and enjoyable event: Sonia Siecker who orchestrated the entire photo circuit event from start to finish without missing a beat, Lynette Lambert and Angela Rix. Lyn handled the images side which involved photovault, the judging and produced the presentation audiovisuals, a CD copy of which went to all entrants, together with Angie who handled the results, all the printing and designing of certificates and the category slides. Ever-present Sonia was there to help them and the club thanks Hennie, Sonia’s patient husband who lent his wife for such a long time.

Sonia is not only an ace organiser; she is also a first-rate photographer who walked off with the overall top-scored image prize for her interpretation of ‘People Activity’. Congratulations too to the overall winners which were: Wendy Freer (first), Sonia Siecker (second) and Andrew McLaren (third). Young Jacques Coetzer received the top-scored image prize for his ‘Rectangular Assault’ in the ‘newbie section’ which comprised non-camera club participants. Well done to all of you. Last but not least, the club’s grateful thanks go to the adjudicators, Emanuel Maria, Pieter Venter and Rory Baker, who had to judge and score 380 images each.
