Flat refurbishments gets underway

LONG-OVERDUE refurbishment has been confirmed for the KZN human settlement flats in Wentworth in an Austerville ‘rectification project.’The necessary resources have been provided to start the refurbishment of phase 1 for these flats throughout the area. The contractor and sub-contractors will refurbish 12 units and build 18 more.

“Work has finally begun on the improvements to the dilapidated flats after promises were made to the Wentworth community in 2005, giving hope to people who have been patiently waiting to see and live in the refurbished flats,” said member of the Austerville project steering committee (APSC), Desmond D’Sa.

The project, worth R190-million, was instituted by government officials through the efforts of the APSC, who will report back to the community at a public meeting on Tuesday, 26 November. At the meeting, community members will be apprised on the progress of the flats, including building of new permanent flats and the show flats, the first of which will be in Quality Street and Austerville Drive.

The public meeting will be at the Austerville Civic Centre at 6.30pm on Tuesday, 26 November.
