Men nabbed within hours of robbing Bluff mother
Quick-acting police officers arrest phone thieves.
TWO men were arrested within two hours of assaulting and robbing a mother, while she walked with her son on the Bluff on Friday, 3 October.
The mother and son were walking along Island View Road at about 9.30am when they were passed by a silver Polo. The vehicle came to a halt ahead of them and the passenger climbed out. The man quickly walked towards them with a silver gun in his hand and forced the woman to the ground. He grabbed her mobile phone, jumped back into the car and raced away.
A case was opened at Brighton Beach SAP and a description of the vehicle and attacker were dispersed to local officers. While on patrol in Jacobs, Brighton Beach cluster hi-jacking task team’s Sergeant Robert Jooste and Constable Pule Ngqengqa observed a silver Polo with two men inside.
When the officers directed the men to pull the vehicle over, the driver sped off, leading police on a chase through Clairwood and Jacobs. The police officers were eventually able to box the Polo in and force them to a halt.
A silver .357 revolver with the serial numbers filed off and five live rounds of ammunition were found by Sgt Jooste under the passenger seat.
The two men, aged 23 and 32 appeared in the Durban Regional Court on Monday, 6 October 2014 on charges including armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and were placed back in police custody while investigations continued.
Sgt Jooste and Cst Ngqengqa are congratulated by Brighton Beach SAP management for their vigilance that led to the arrest and recovery of the unlicensed gun and ammunition within two hours.
