Enviro Day marked with school competition final
More than 500 pupils attended the event
THE South Durban Basin (SDB) Area Based Management (ABM) office, along with other municipal structures celebrated International Environment Day on 5 June with song and dance and environmental education at Durban City Hall.
More than 500 pupils attended the event, which also played host to the Waste Management Reading Promotion finals. Pupils from 105 primary schools participated in this artistic competition, which included choral verse, story-telling, poetry, drama and isicathamiya. ‘Clean and maintain my school, my area and my city’ was the theme of the productions, with the aim of promoting environmental and waste management practises in schools.
Bongumusa Primary School won the competition.
“We are delighted to host an event of this magnitude. In 2016, we are going to take this competition to another level by increasing the number of schools who will take part at a regional level,” said SDB ABM municipal services manager, Sifiso Xulu.
