Stolen car netted in gridlock

Police intercept car thieves in gridlock.

BEING late was the biggest consequence for most motorists caught in the congestion following Tuesday, 4 August’s tanker fire on the N2 beneath the Sarnia Road overhead bridge – not so for two hijackers who were easily apprehended thanks to the motionless traffic.

Warrant Officer Ramsamy of the provincial task Team was alerted by a tracking company that they had picked up a signal from a stolen vehicle on the N2. The Toyota Hilux, which had been reported stolen at Alexandra SAPS in Pietermaritzburg, was caught among the early morning congestion following the blaze.

Pro Force Security staffers, who were stuck in the traffic nearby, received a tracking signal from the stolen vehicle and walked through the traffic in search of it. According to Montclair SAPS, W/O Ramsamy was also on hand to locate the stolen car in the gridlock near the near NPC cement factory.

The driver and a passenger were arrested for possession of property suspected to be stolen and car breaking implements. “Montclair SAPS management commends W/O Ramsamy for his dedication and recovery of the vehicle,” said Montclair SAPS spokesman, W/O Poobalan Marimuthu.
