Writing’s on the wall for illegal signs

People posting illegal signs are warned.

UNLAWFUL signage has become the scourge of the Bluff, according to councillor Duncan Du Bois.

Signs posted on poles and walls offering any manner of services, often of an unsavoury nature, have become commonplace on the Bluff, much to the chagrin of the ward councillor.

“At almost every traffic light and intersection, illegal signage abounds. Tilers, skimmers, carpenters and a host of other services are on offer attached to street light poles and other council infrastructure.

The latest in parts of my ward are stickers advertising penis enlargement. Such vulgarity is the last straw,” said Du Bois.

All advertisers must get permission from town planning to put up their posters. A green sticker must be affixed or it is deemed illegal.

Du Bois has called for the municipality to conduct a physical removal campaign to clean up the area.

Meanwhile, Bluff Alliance member, Ivor Aylward said he is also on the trail of illegal advertisers, specifically those marketing products or services that should not be advertised in view of children.

“I am working with municipal officials and people posting these disgusting signs will be tracked down,” said Aylward.

eThekwini Municipality has confirmed they have noted the concerns and will send out the signage inspector to gather the information.
