Convent school capt competition win

Winners of a national challenge were rewarded with a visit by SA cricketer, Dale Steyn

OUR Lady of Natal Convent pupils are ‘Ready for Life’ as the winners of a national challenge who were rewarded with a visit by SA cricketer, Dale Steyn on Wednesday, 2 March.

Unilever’s Omo began a national enterprise last year in a bid to highlight the need for education, goal setting and pushing the boundaries for success. The ‘Omo Ready for Life’ schools challenge saw hundreds of schools collecting Omo Auto liquid caps.

Our Lady of Natal rose to the challenge and placed first in the primary school division in KZN. This landed them not only the visit from a cricketing legend, but also R10,000 in prize money.

“Omo is geared towards unleashing human potential and key to developing this is setting and achieving goals. Ready for Life seeks to build this responsible outlook with learners from a young age.

Dale possesses all the key attributes a young and aspiring pupil would find attractive in a mentor. He himself is young, successful and highly motivated. Thus he was identified as the ideal fit for the campaign, given his mentorship role to support budding talent,” said Omo South Africa brand team’s Henry Muchauraya.

Our Lady of Natal Convent principal, Fiona Coetzee was elated. “When we found out we had won the challenge, we were over the moon. Pupils and educators put so much effort in the challenge and it was all worth it. They are in awe of Dale and were overjoyed when he arrived.

The challenge brought so much unity; it got everybody working together towards a common goal – to win. Finances are a big issue in every school, so with the prize money from Omo, our school will buy essential sports equipment such as cricket balls, cricket bats, hockey sticks and hockey balls. I would like to send a big thank you to Omo,” she said.

As winners of the challenge, Our Lady of Natal was given the opportunity to pay it forward by nominating a less privileged school for an award of R5,000 for school equipment or an upgrade. Fellow Bluff school, Panda Pre-Primary was nominated by the Convent.

In 2015, Omo reached 133,759 children through the Ready for Life campaign, which will continue in 2016.
