Unlicensed guns seized in Wentworth

Those who are in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition that they will be arrested and dealt with by the law

WENTWORTH police warn those who in possession of  unlicensed firearms and ammunition that they will be arrested and dealt with by the law.

This warning follows the arrest of a 21-year-old man on Friday, 18 March around 1pm.
Constables Nene and Ndlovu were patrolling the area when they noticed a vehicle parked in Reiger Road. With the assistance of Capt Houston and Cnst Shoba, the members approached the vehicle and searched four men.
Cst Ndlovu who searched the driver, found a firearm on him and live ammunition. “He questioned the driver who admitted to not having a license for the firearm,” said Wentworth SAPS communications officer, Lt Mabaso Gumede.
The 21-year-old was arrested and appeared in Durban court on 18 March. The other three occupants were released and warned not to participate in any criminal activities.On Wednesday another case of possession of unlicensed firearm was reported where a 20-year-old man was arrested. Members of  the visible policy unit (Vispol) headed by Cpt Lynton Houston conducted a random operation in Alabama Road. During the operation they noticed a man standing with a group of ten men. When they approached members got to the group, the targeted man disappeared into his flat, according to the others.

The officers went to the flat and did a random search with the resident’s permission. Cpt Houston found a pistol with 15 live bullets. Two phones and cash was found under a mattress as well as three dagga pipes, and bank packets with dagga. Other items including a camera were seized by the police for further investigation.

The 20-year-old suspect was detained for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He appeared in Wentworth court on Thursday, 24 March.
