A BLUFF family’s home was almost engulfed by a mudslide on Tuesday night, 26 July.
When Kingsley Road collapsed, it sent a raging landslide careening down onto the Leinster Road home of Gail Goldstone during the storm that night. Gail, who has lived in the home since 1997, said she just returned home and parked her car before joining her family inside. “It was not long until my daughter-in-law noticed the water. I didn’t realise it was raining so hard. I heard gushing water and when I looked outside, I saw a waterfall,” she said in shock. “The sand had already buried my car, all you could see was the roof.”

She called her son who wasn’t at home at the time in fear they were being flooded out. She then called disaster management officials who came, assessed the situation and evacuated the household. “They had to lift the gate off its hinges because my son who is in a wheelchair had to be carried out,” added Goldstone.
The family was left disorientated, panicked and too anxious to sleep. “My house was almost buried in the sand. It’s half way to being six feet under. It’s like we are living in a dream world,” she said.
The house next door was also affected since the wall was destroyed by the sand which flooded their property as well.
No injuries were reported.
