THE heavy rains of the last week caused damage throughout the South Durban Basin, including a crevasse along Kingsley Road on the Bluff which took half the road with it.
Street light cabling and part of the pole were seen hanging from trees while most of the pole washed away along with the road during the deluge. Many Bluffites visited the site, which was marked off by branches across the road, to take photos. People are urged to stay clear of the area as its stability has not yet been determined.
“As a result of the chasm, there is no through access to the southern part of Kingsley Road from the Olsen Road side. Given the extent of the damage along with major infrastructural setbacks elsewhere in the metro, it may be some months before Kingsley Road is restored,” said ward 66 councillor and local historian, Duncan Du Bois.
