HOME owners need to be safety conscious as Brighton Beach police find homes and vehicles unsecured while on patrol.
“Vehicle and foot patrols conducted over the last few days within the Brighton Beach SAPS area have highlighted the negligence of home owners in effectively using security features to safeguard their loved ones and property,” said media officer, Captain Louise Le Roux.
The following was noted by police during their patrols:
* Property gates were left open, including those controlled with remote access.
* Garage doors were open with valuables on display.
* Front doors were open, with security gates unlocked.
* Post boxes were left overflowing, showing that home owners were away.
* Vehicle were parked on verges, even when there was sufficient parking within the premises. A total of 24 vehicles were found open with their windows down and valuables lying in plain sight.
“To keep criminals out, you must lock them out. Don’t create opportunities for criminals to invade your homes, and property-related crimes to increase.
Community support in preventing crime is highly appreciated by Brighton Beach SAPS management.”
