TO realise her dream of playing softball abroad, Jade De Figueiredo (18) has to raise R40,000 to get her to America to play with the South African softball team.
The Montclair all-rounder is over the moon about her prospective trip to America to play in the Junior Women’s Softball World Championship.
“I’m thrilled to be part of this international event and my parents and I are trying so hard to raise the money.”
The teenager and the national team plan to leave for the USA, Florida on 18 July. The family have only managed to rise R7,000 so far but they dearly hope they will be able to meet the R40,000 target on time. “The tournament is from 24 to 30 July. It’s a huge opportunity for me, as there will be scouts out there watching us play on an international stage,” she said.
The family appeals to the community to support their fundraisers. The next one will be at the Malvern Spur on 25 May. “We encourage people to come and support my daughter by having a meal.
She will be given a percentage of the profit made that night towards her fundraising,” said mother, Sarah De Figueiredo. “I want to see my daughter thrive and for her to go to America is a huge step up in her sporting career. Her selection to the SA team is such an honour for her – it just shows how hard working and dedicated she is to her craft,” said the proud mother.
