Entries for FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN open this weekend

Entries for the third annual FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN (taking place on Sunday, 13 October 2019) will open this Saturday, 1 June.

“Although only in its third year, the FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN has delivered nail-biting performances,” said Michael Meyer, Managing Director Stillwater Sports.  “In 2017, the inaugural event saw Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei smash the South African all-comers record of 27:55 set by Richard Limo in Port Elizabeth in 2004. Cheptegei crossed the line in 27:28 for the fourth fastest time in the world that year (October), as well as a Ugandan national record.  If that wasn’t enough, Mercyline Chelangat ran a national Ugandan record (31:37) in the women’s race, while Julien Wanders (who finished 3rd in the men’s race) set a Swiss national record (28:12).  The excitement continued in 2018 with Cheptegei breaking his own course record and with that the Ugandan record and the SA all-comers record (new record 27:16).  By finishing second (27:32) Swiss sensation, Julien Wanders broke both the Swiss national 10km record and the European 10km record (set in 2010 by Mo Farah), making him the fastest European of all time over 10km (at that time).  Stella Chesang (31:14) smashed the women’s course record, the Ugandan national 10km record, and came within one second of the SA all-comers record.”

“Although there is no lack in excitement in the elite race, the FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN is a mass participation road run that grants all entrants the unique opportunity to explore their city on foot,” continues Meyer.  “Runners (and walkers) can look forward to an action packed 10km journey that highlights important landmarks and features exciting live entertainment compliments of Durban’s leading performing arts groups.  The fresh sea air and magnificent ocean views will definitely add to the experience.  Durbanites are invited to #RunDurbanTheirWay.”

The FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN is the last of three mass participation road running events that make up the FNB Run Your City Series.  The 2019 series kicked off in Cape Town in May with the fifth annual FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN. Joburg will host the fouth annual FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN on Sunday, 24 September 2019 (National Heritage Day), after which Durban will have its turn to shine.
