Cab driver robbed of cellphone at gunpoint
The men chased after the driver, grabbed hold of him and demanded his car keys.

A CASE of attempted carjacking was opened after a taxi driver had a close call in Montclair.
The driver was requested to collect a man on the corner of Gardener and Pine streets in Durban and transport him to Montclair at about 7.30pm. However, when he arrived, there were two passengers.
“He told them he would only transport one person and drove off to Montclair. When he arrived at Holly Place, he saw he was being followed by a silver BMW. He drove his vehicle into a car wash and ran away with the car keys,” said Capt Derek Vijiam.
The men chased after the driver, grabbed hold of him and demanded his car keys. “He screamed for help and the suspects drove off without taking his the vehicle. His cell phone was taken at gunpoint.”
Tuesday, 3 September
AN ESCAPED housebreaker was injured in a shoot-out with police and re-arrested in Clairwood.
Detectives from Greenwood Park received information about a man wanted for housebreaking, malicious damage to property and escaping from custody in Sigamoney Road, at about 4pm.
“The suspect was identified and recognised by the detective who was pursuing him. He then barricaded himself in a wooden cabin. The detective tried to enter, however, he was met with physical force from the suspect. He was armed with a knife and attacked the policemen. The detective fired two shots, the first being a warning shot and the second hitting the man in the left thigh,” said Capt Derek Vijiam. SAPS Montclair warns the community to vigilant when traveling in the area and to check that car doors are locked.
“Do not leave any valuables in your vehicle. Drivers traveling in open bakkies are warned not to leave valuables lying loose, especially at traffic lights and stop streets. The community is warned that drinking in public is an offence as documented in the city’s bylaws. If arrested, you will be fined R2 500.”
