Mommy moments: Shopping for my tiny human

All our planning skills went out the window, taking us way over our budget, but it was for the best possible reason ever.

WE’VE been stocking up on baby gear from the time I was about 16 weeks pregnant.

My husband and I, being the planners that we are, decided it was the best way to ensure that Your Royal Highness (our daughter) has everything she needs before she makes her arrival into the world.

Last week led us to the Mama Magic Baby Expo, where we shopped till we dropped.

All our planning skills went out the window, taking us way over our budget, but it was for the best possible reason ever.

There were tons of discounts, freebies and samples – which is an Indian person’s heaven, I might add. There was no need to even ask, “Make a better price there?” Not that we would have, but you know what I mean.

We started with the necessities and moved on to the nice-to-haves. I found myself asking the stallholders tons of questions as if I was a first-time mom because going down this road again after 14 years, I have forgotten a lot.

I also noticed that there are so many more products on the market now – nice to have but unnecessary, if you ask me… Like a baby Nutribullet and a milk-maker thingie that mixes the formula for you like a coffee machine.

When I looked at the prices of these gadgets, I thought, Nah, I’ll use my blender to make baby food and my hands and flask to make a bottle. I did it with my first two, and they are just fine.

Baby clothes on the other hand are hard for me to resist.

They’re just so cute, and each time I imagine my little girl in them, it makes it that much harder to resist.

And then, reality check: In a few weeks’ time, I’ll be folding about 100 pieces of tiny human clothes every week. Send help!

It gets even more real. It’s week 30 for me. My bookings have been made with my gynae and the hospital, and if that wasn’t enough to make me realise how time has flown, the tiny feet kicking my ribs sure do!

Not too long ago, the only movement I could feel was fluttering. Now, I feel like I’m giving birth to a martial artist, and I can’t wait to see her moves!
