Help refurbish victim friendly facility

When trauma occurs, the reporting process can be just as daunting as the event itself.

THE Ward 66 Vulnerable Groups Sub-Committee is honoured to be involved in the project to refurbish the Brighton Beach police station’s Victim Friendly Facility and are urging residents to donate.

The centre serves as a receiving point for families, individuals and children who need sensitive assistance during times of crisis.

Donations which are encouraged include a children’s table and chairs (any colours), wall mural paint for a volunteer who will paint the walls, curtains, teddy bears and dolls which are fully clothed, crayons, colouring books, fidget poppers, toys or dinky cars, a small book shelf, books for children aged six and over, as well as picture books for younger children, and a large toy storage box. Personal items such as sanitary pads, tampons, wet wipes, hair brushes, tooth brushes, toothpaste and all sizes of disposable underwear are also needed.

Chairing the vulnerable groups sub-committee, Chantal Bransgrove-Bower said when trauma occurs, the reporting process can be just as daunting as the event itself.

“Having to relive the details of the experience and share details of everything you went though is difficult. The victim friendly centre is a space where you can report a crime in a safe space. There are far too many crimes that go unreported because people are too scared to go through the process. We aim to gather items which will make the room warmer and ‘victim friendlier.’ Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. This is an awesome way to donate as your donations will help the area become a safe place of comfort for victims in many years to come,” said Chantal.

Anyone who would like to get involved in the project or donate can contact Chantal Bransgrove-Bower on 083 734 2841 or Melissa Welgemoed on 082 299 4682.
