Manhunt launched after girl assaulted at school

In the wake of a shocking incident at the school, law enforcement launched a manhunt to bring the suspect to justice.

POLICE have launched a manhunt for a man who assaulted a learner at a local school in Merebank on April 10. It is alleged the learner was at the toilets when the suspect intruded and accosted her.

The screams of the girl alerted teachers and other learners at the school forcing the suspect to flee. At this stage, the police are still trying to gather evidence and find the motive for the attack.

A source at the school, not authorised to speak to the media, said the matter is being investigated by the senior management at the school.

According to a statement from PT Alarms, the family of the child and Team Ridge Neighbourhood Watch met with the management of the school on April 10.

“PT Alarms will work with the relevant role-players and the family of the girl to bring the perpetrator to book. The SAPS and PT Alarms, together with Team Ridge, will leave no stone unturned in the quest for justice,” a statement read.

Police spokesperson for the eThekwini District Captain Carmen Rhynes said the police have not made any arrests at this stage.
