The Bluff athletes shine at SPAR-tacular Durban Women’s Race

The Durban SPAR Women’s Race brought together women and men from all over to unite in a day of camaraderie and fitness.

ATHLETES from The Bluff Athletic Club delivered a remarkable performance at the Durban SPAR Women’s 10/5km Race held on June 23. Among the standout participants were Tanya Weweje and Jacqueline Kelly, each bringing their unique stories and teams to the vibrant event.

Tanya Weweje, a seasoned runner who recently completed the Comrades Marathon, participated in the 5km race alongside her 13-year-old daughter, Caitlyn Weweje. Sharing her excitement, Tanya remarked, “The 5km race is a fun-filled, enjoyable course that anyone can take on. The turnout was incredible, making it an unforgettable event.”

She highlighted the personal importance of the race, saying, “I chose to do this race with my daughter to spend some quality mom-and-daughter time together and enjoy a fun morning out. It was also my way of easing back into running after the Comrades Marathon.”

Weweje praised the inclusivity of the SPAR Women’s Race, noting, “The SPAR Women’s Race is an event that anyone can join. It was amazing to see thousands of people coming out to support this fantastic race.”

Jacqueline Kelly also took part in the event, running the 10km course with her boot camp team and running friends. Reflecting on her experience, Kelly stated, “It was an amazing course and a well-organised route.”

Kelly, who is passionate about running and participates in numerous local 10km races, highlighted the excellent organisation and community support. She remarked, “It was an awesome run; everything was well-organised and planned. It was wonderful to see such huge support.”

The Durban SPAR Women’s 10/5km Race brought together thousands of participants of all ages and fitness levels, celebrating the spirit of camaraderie and the joy of running.
