Sunshine and Unicorn shopping hailed as a success

Bluff Assist’s Sunshine Shopping market made its return with the inclusion of Unicorn Shopping for the children. The free shopping experience allowed those in need to select what they wanted out of donated items.

BLUFF Assist, a local community support organisation, hosted a successful free shopping day on June 17, bringing joy and relief to hundreds of residents.

This quarterly event, known for its unique themes of ‘Sunshine Shopping’ for adults and ‘Unicorn Shopping’ for children, transformed the outside gym on Lighthouse Road into a bustling hub of generosity and community spirit.

The event welcomed 195 individuals, making it the largest turnout to date. Chantal Bransgrove-Bower, a dedicated member of Bluff Assist, remarked, “The community truly shines on days like these.”

“Participants were allowed to select 10 to 15 items each, including clothes, shoes, bedding and curtains. As the day progressed, and if items remained, attendees were invited to take additional goods, ensuring that nothing went to waste,” Bransgrove-Bower explained.

She added, “We had disabled individuals, elderly residents and many children come through. In some cases, these helping hands literally save them. With the cold nights, the blanket and jacket they received will help keep them warm through the winter.”

Bransgrove-Bower shared that the support from community members, who donated items and volunteered their time, was incredible. As residents left with much-needed items and a sense of community support, the event highlighted the powerful impact of coming together to help those in need.
