Colours of Bliss dance the night away at fundraiser

Community members from various parts of the Durban South Basin came together for a night of celebration which also raised funds for a good cause.

ATTENDEES bopped to the top for a good cause when Colours of Bliss held their second annual Dinner and Dance Fundraiser at Marigold Banquet Hall in Merebank on September 14.

The event, focusing on raising funds and awareness for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), filled the venue with vibrant energy as community members, supporters and autistic individuals mingled.

Nilesthra Padayachee, public relations officer at Colours of Bliss, said this was more than a fundraiser. “The opportunity to bring awareness of autism and inclusion of individuals with ASD are exactly the reasons for hosting such an event. Our goal is to foster greater understanding and a more supportive community,” she said.

The evening’s programme commenced with a welcome by the founder and chairperson, Kubashnie Padayachee, followed by a video presentation detailing all the work that is done at the organisation.

About 170 people attended the event, and they were all kept busy by DJ Jodash who kept the energy going with old-school hits, popular tracks and songs for line dancing that kept guests on the dance floor throughout the night.

As a registered non-profit and public benefit organisation under section 18A, Colours of Bliss relies heavily on donations to sustain its programmes. “The funds raised from this event will help in covering the operational costs of the centre and also support the very high costs that come along with early special needs education,” said Nilesthra.

Nilesthra said that looking ahead, the organisation hopes to introduce occupational therapy for learners and set up a dedicated space for respite-care services for ASD children, adults and families.

Colours of Bliss would like to thank all those who made the night a success, from the venue staff to volunteers and supporters to anyone who assisted in whatever way they did.
