Bluff residents urged to use water wisely

Ward 66 councillor Zoë Solomon appealed to the community to keep two days' worth of emergency drinking water.

FOLLOWING a major burst pipe that left Fynnlands residents and surroundings without water from Thursday (October 17), Ward 66 councillor Zoë Solomon has appealed to the community to use water sparingly.

As the City of eThekwini is going through the curtailment process, which began on October 10, Solomon said it was of vital importance for residents to keep extra water for emergencies.

In a video shared on social media platforms, Solomon urged residents to keep two days’ worth of emergency drinking water.

After the pipe was repaired, water supply returned slowly in some parts of Fynnlands on Friday (October 18).

“A few weeks back, we were told that there would be water issues in eThekwini in October. I sent out an urgent message appealing to everybody to save water. We don’t know if water supply will be reduced or restricted. Everybody must heed the call and save water,” said Solomon.

Solomon said that construction workers managed to replace the burst pipe in Fynnlands.

“In most parts of Durban, except in the south where we are, people are under water-shedding and restrictions. There are days and weeks when people in eThekwini are going without water. We have not been affected by the restrictions,” she said.

She urged residents in desperate situations regarding water to fetch water from a borehole across the road from Grosvenor Girls’ High School.
