Police seize condoms at Wentworth school

The police searched six classrooms and found dangerous weapons that were allegedly concealed in the learners’ school bags.

CONDOMS, vapes, brass knuckles, dangerous weapons and drugs were found during a recent school search raid conducted in one of the high schools in Wentworth.

The Wentworth police in conjunction with metro police and private security companies conducted a sting operation at the school after information was received about learners in possession of dangerous weapons.

When the police arrived at the school, six classrooms were searched.

Police spokesperson in Wentworth, Captain Mbuso Gumede, said police used sniffer dogs to search the school premises.

“The members of the Wentworth Vispol in partnership with Umlazi K9 Unit , metro police, P.T Alarms, Titans Arms Security and Uzzi Protection, visited the school. Umlazi K9 dog unit came and did classroom sweeps using a sniffer dogs.

Among items found were plastic containing dagga, knives and other stuff. eThekwini District Vispol Commander Colonel Khubisa and Wentworth station commander Colonel Sinayo Mtshali were also present .

“After the search learners were advised to focus on their studies, during these exams period.

“Lieutenant Colonel Clive Myburg thanked everyone who participated during the school search by ensuring that the school environment is free of drugs, and dangerous objects like firearms and knives,” said Gumede.

The station commander for Wentworth police station, Colonel Sinayo Mtshali, emphasised that no learner should feel unsafe in school due to the fear of being attacked by fellow learners, and that bullying should be stopped immediately.

Gumede added, “Wentworth police are committed to ensuring that all schools are safe. School safety awareness is essential in every school.”
