Chairman Gavin Hegter presented a comprehensive report on the conservancy’s projects undertaken during the past year. One of the most successful projects was the alien plant eradication programme at the Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife, which was generously funded by NPC Cement. Hegter said the programme not only made a huge difference environmentally but also provided excellent employment opportunities for residents.

During the AGM an award ceremony was held to honour people and organisations supporting its cause.

NPC Cement was awarded the Corporate Rhino Floating Trophy for its continued invaluable donations to the conservancy’s projects. The Individual Elephant Floating Trophy was given to Sherryl Reid due for her tireless and relentless dedication to promote and uphold the values of the conservancy.

Other awards included certificates of appreciation which were given to Zodwa Msweli of the eThekwini Municipality Parks Department for continued environmental education and inspiration of the youth in conservation, and to Yellowwood Park Superspar for its continued support of events and initiatives of the conservancy.

The conservancy plans to reach out to local schools to revive its junior conservancy programme to better educate younger minds about conservation so that the practice can be truly sustained for Yellowwood Park’s future.

The conservancy is made up of a group of concerned residents whose purpose is to promote conservation through education and urban projects. This includes focusing on Yellowwood Park projects that are beneficial to both the environment and the community.
