Father, son team up to unclog a drain on The Bluff

The two men have been hailed for their recent actions in helping unblock the drain at Ansteys Beach on The Bluff.

TWO residents from The Bluff have been hailed as heroes after they unblocked a drain that had been left unattended for many weeks at Ansteys Beach .

A pensioner, Tullio (81) and his son Laslo Monte (49), a former resident of The Bluff who now lives in Australia, spent three days unblocking the drain.

Tullio, a resident of Glenardle Road in Brighton Beach on The Bluff, said they sprang into action after receiving a complaint about a resident who slipped and fell in the stagnant water coming from the blocked drain.

“My son is visiting us. His love for the beach takes him there every single morning. He talks to the people, a group of surfers and ‘old-timers.’ There was a pool of water near the showers where the drain had blocked. My son went to have a look and discovered that the end of the pipe was covered by vegetation that grows on the beach, blocking the pipe. We decided to give it a go, as I had enough resources at home to give it a good try,” said Tullio.

He encouraged other residents to play a proactive role in service delivery issues

“It’s obvious that the residence are complaining, if you go and have a site inspection at the beach you will see that there is a lot that needs to be attended to.

“However, residents shouldn’t just take things into their own hands as this might not have a good result because every maintenance job requires a certain amount of skill and special tools and equipment.

“We were surprised by the compliments we received and it did make us feel good and pleased to have done it,” he said.
