Register for free computer skills course, urges Engen

South Durban residents are encouraged to take part in Engen’s free computer skills course that aims to improve their skillset and open new doors.

ENGEN is inviting residents from South Durban to apply for its free four-month computer skills course at the Engen Community Computer School. It is a step in furthering digital inclusion that promotes job creation and provides participants with a good qualification, which will unlock career opportunities.

The most recent graduation saw 88 graduates equipped with their newfound skills. Course convener and training director, Sheryl Casalis, shared that four December 2024 graduates are already employed.

Since its inception in 2009, the school has thus far empowered 3,199 South Durban residents.

“The Engen Community Computer School training makes a tangible difference to the lives of those who attend. Many arrive feeling uncertain about their ability to learn new skills, yet they leave with confidence and a skillset that opens new career possibilities,” said Casalis.

Olwethu Mdabula, Engen’s CSI manager, congratulated the graduates and reiterated the company’s pledge to community empowerment.

“Engen believes that equipping communities with digital skills is essential to thrive in today’s digital landscape. We are committed to helping build resilient, empowered communities,” said Mdabula.

The initiative is complementary to other Engen educational programmes, such as the Engen Maths and Science Schools, that address critical skills shortages in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Applications for the 2025 intake are now open, and members of the community of South Durban are invited to apply for the course. The course takes four months to complete, running every weekday, while the work commitment option runs every Saturday over the course of a year. Limited spaces are available, and early registration is recommended.
