Coedmore Bridge expected to be complete by May

The projected completion date of the Coedmore Bridge was originally set for February, however, the bridge is now expected to be complete in May.

THE reconstruction of Coedmore Bridge continues to make steady progress, with a key phase of the project now underway. The team is now working towards a May completion date.

Nolwandle Gcaba, the community liaison officer for wards 64 and 65, said that the bridge deck is sufficiently cured, and the contractors began the stressing process from February 3.

She added that the Abutment B’s wing walls are going up and the section one concrete is being stripped.

“Adjudication for contract participation goal has not been completed. The completion date is expected to be around the end of May. We thank the community for its patience,” said Gcaba.

The reconstruction of the bridge has made strides since the beginning of the year as they were able to complete the concrete pour of the deck on January 25.

EThekwini Municipality has allocated R48 million for the rehabilitation of the two-lane, 90m bridge, which will include pedestrian walkways. Funding for the project has been sourced from the National Treasury’s Municipal Disaster Response Grant.
