Tafta yard sale helps bring the community together

The Primrose Wellness Centre at the Tafta John Dunn Home offered the community a variety of items on sale to assist in their fundraising efforts.

PRIMROSE Wellness Centre at The Association for the Aged (Tafta) John Dunn House in Wentworth held its much-awaited yard sale on February 5, where community members and visitors spent a day of fun purchasing and socialising.

Kemmy-Leigh Moodley, marketing co-ordinator for Tafta, said the reason behind the event was to foster community spirit, empower aging individuals with abilities and promote entrepreneurship while raising much-needed funds.

There was a bit of everything for sale, from used clothing to accessories, shoes, jewellery, household items, snacks, and cookware.

“We saw a need in the community for second-hand sales to provide community members with the opportunity to purchase items at affordable rates. Many of the items on sale are generously gifted to us by donors who support the raising of funds through the resale of these items,” said Moodley.

She highlighted that the profits are directly used in assisting the operation of the Primrose Wellness Centre, which hosts activities for older people to develop skills and promote general well-being.

“The centre also provides a space that is both stress-free and gives many older people purpose and eliminates loneliness,” she said.

Despite foggy weather, the event drew a good number of participants. Another Primrose Wellness Centre yard sale will be planned later in the year, along with other fundraisers such as the Easter breakfast on April 30 and a winter dance in June or July.

Thanks to the continuous sponsorship by donors and the dedication of organisers, the events help to keep alive the centre’s mission of empowering and assisting the elderly in the community.
