Youth shot dead in Wentworth on Saturday evening

The victim was shot multiple times in his back at the corner of Richard Winn and Goede Hoop Roads in Wentworth.

A 23-YEAR-OLD man was shot multiple times and died at the corner of Richard Winn and Goede Hoop Roads in Wentworth on Saturday night (March 15).

The victim, whose name is withheld until his family members are informed, sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his back.

The motive for the attack is unclear, however the police are investigating a case of murder.

Police spokesperson for eThekwini District, Captain Carmen Rhynes, said Wentworth Police Station officers received information about the shooting and reacted.

“On arrival the police found the victim lying motionless on the ground. He had sustained gunshot wounds to his back. Paramedics attended and certified him dead at the scene,” said Rhynes.

The suspects are unknown at this stage, however, Rhynes appealed to members of the public who may have information that can assist in the investgation to come forward.

“The investigation is ongoing and leads are being followed up. The motive is currently unknown,” Rhynes added.

Spokesperson for PT Alarms, Dhevan Govindasamy, said that the residents who had gathered at the scene shortly after the shooting were reluctant to talk to the officers.
