Every office that works with smart ID cards will stay open from 16:00 until 18:00 during this time. A smart ID is a necessity for learners to sit for the National Senior Certificate exams.

What you need to apply?

If you’re applying for a smart ID card for the first time, you will need:

  • Your birth certificate
  • A certified copy of one parent, legal guardian or informant’s ID
  • A death certificate or certified copy, if your parents are dead
  • Proof of where you live (if you have it) or your address
  • It’s free for first time applications

In order to modernise the service and minimise waiting time, people are encouraged to book their application or collection slots through Branch Appointment Booking System on the official home affairs website. However, walk-ins will not be turned away.
