Patrols conducted to deter criminals

The initiative was led by Yellowwood Park Sub-Forum chairperson Jaquelene Goncalves alongside sector commander Constable Norah Ndlovu and members of the police crime prevention unit.

Stop-and-search operations were carried out as part of efforts to deter criminal activity, improve visibility, and disrupt potential offenders.

Patrols were conducted throughout the day, with officers maintaining a strong presence in the area.

Private security companies, including Blue Security and Security Force, as well as Durban South Security teams, joined the operation.

Spokesperson for Montclair police station, Ndlovu, said:

“This operation demonstrates the power of partnership between police, private security, and the community. Our joint presence helps deter crime, improve response times, and ensures that residents feel safer in their neighbourhoods.”

Ndlovu said the operation placed strong emphasis on community engagement.

She said teams interacted with residents, addressing concerns and encouraging greater co-operation with law enforcement.

“Engaging with the community allows us to understand their concerns, build trust, and encourage reporting of suspicious activities, which is vital for long-term crime prevention,” Ndlovu added.

No major incidents

Police said the operation was a great success, citing positive community interaction and visible policing as critical outcomes.

No major incidents were reported during the patrols, with officials noting that the increased presence served as a deterrent to potential criminal activity.

Ndlovu reiterated the police’s commitment to ongoing operations of this nature, particularly in areas identified as vulnerable to crime.

“We will continue to work hand-in-hand with community structures and private security to ensure Montclair remains a safe environment for all residents,” Ndlovu added.

The Montclair police said partnerships between police, private security, and community forums remain central to their crime-fighting strategy, with further joint operations expected in the coming months as part of sustained efforts to improve safety across the district.
