Drugs and ammunition seized in Merebank joint operation

During the joint operation in Merebank, 600 pieces of rock cocaine and 14 rounds of live ammunition were recovered.

A JOINT operation involving the police Provincial Drugs and Firearms Unit, with the assistance of the Excellerate Security K9 Unit, resulted in the seizure of drugs and ammunition during a targeted search in the Merebank area recently.

According to a statement by the Excellerate Security K9 Unit, members executed a search at a hotel building identified during ongoing investigations, resulting in the recovery of illegal narcotics and live ammunition.

During the operation, 600 pieces of rock cocaine and 14 rounds of live ammunition were recovered.

Police spokesperson in Wentworth, Captain Mbuso Gumede, said the drugs were found abandoned.

“There was no arrest made as the drugs were found abandoned. The police are still searching for the suspect in this matter,” said Gumede.

The estimated street value of the recovered drugs is approximately R30 000.
