Exco emphasised that the extension is necessary to ensure uninterrupted access to library services for residents.

“Following an assessment of available options, it was determined that no suitable Municipal-owned facilities currently exist within the area that meet the operational, accessibility, safety and spatial requirements necessary for the continued provision of library services,” said eThekwini in a statement.

In accordance with Section 116(3) of the Local Government: Municipal Finance Management Act, 2003, Exco recommended the amendment of Contract ZE-21813 to extend the lease agreement.

According to Exco, the extension is necessary to ensure uninterrupted access to library services for residents.

This decision underscores the municipality’s commitment to preserving access to educational resources and community facilities.
