Police seek witnesses of fatal hit-and-run on M4 southern freeway

BRIGHTON Beach police are appealing for witnesses of a fatal alleged hit-and-run, on the M4 southbound on September 9, to come forward and assist them.

Captain Louise le Roux, the Brighton Beach police station spokesperson, said police are probing a case of culpable homicide.

She said that on the day in question, members from the Brighton Beach visible policing division were called to attend a scene where a man was believed to have been knocked down by a vehicle at about 20:10.

“Upon arriving at the M4 southbound, before the Clairwood turn-off, the members found a male, believed to be about 30 years old, had sustained multiple injuries.  He was dressed in a black jacket and blue trousers.

“The man was declared dead by paramedics who arrived at the scene. A crutch found on the scene is believed to have belonged to the man,” she said.

Le Roux said the man has not been identified.

“Our detective services are also requesting that any individuals who are missing a family member or a friend since September 9 contact the police station. They can possibly assist us to identify the deceased or a next of kin.

“Further to this, any witnesses to the incident, as well as the driver of the vehicle, are also urged to contact the detective,” she said.
