Make a difference in the lives of Bluff’s most vulnerable residents

The Ward 66 Youth, Gender and Vulnerable groups sub-committee are appealing to residents to assist with donations, food, clothes, toys, or any form of help to assist those in need on the Bluff.

THROUGH the donations from residents on the Bluff and surrounding areas, the Ward 66 Youth, Gender, and Vulnerable groups sub-committee, has been playing its part to make a difference in the lives of the community’s most vulnerable members.

Under the leadership of chairperson, Chantal Bransgrove-Bower, the sub-committee team, Liziwe Mkhulisi, Chantal van Blerk, Hanlie Beukes Hurwitz and Taryn Lee Bell are spreading love and hope to those in despair.

These include regular feeding schemes, free shopping days for adults and children to pick out second-hand clothes, as well as toy drives, and uniting the homeless with their families.

“We do what we can, when we can, and find joy in assisting the vulnerable. This cannot be done without the community. The role of donors plays an important part in our work, as we cannot do anything without donations. There are times when people say they only donated a small item and may think that it is not enough, but we want residents to know that any donation, big or small, is always valued.

“All the food items that are donated, when put together, feed more people than it seems. Each small packet of clothes gets added to a pile and is able to assist many vulnerable families. A simple peanut butter donation gets added together with other donations and helps us make over 300 sandwiches,” said Bransgrove-Bower.

The team uses freshly grown vegetables from the Bluff Community Garden for a feeding scheme that fills hungry tummies across Bluff about three times a week.

“We thank all those who have already extended their hands and offered support to us. Donors will never know how many lives they have already brought hope to. Helping those in need gives them the courage and motivation to keep going,” said Bransgrove-Bower.
